Indigenous owned resort - woman dancing cultural event

October 1, 2026

Just 20 minutes south of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Dakota Dunes Resort is an Indigenous-owned resort destination located on the Whitecap Dakota Nation. The resort brings together a 155-room hotel, Indigenous cultural experiences, Moose Woods Home Fire Grill, Dakota Dunes Golf Links and the upcoming Dakota Dunes Thermal Spa—all surrounded by the natural beauty of the Saskatchewan prairie.

In October, the landscape takes on a different character. Golden prairie grasses, cooler evenings and expansive skies create an ideal setting for a Saskatchewan getaway centred on culture, connection, dining, outdoor experiences and time to slow down simply.

Whether you’re planning a couples’ escape, a family getaway, a weekend with friends or a quiet retreat, fall is a beautiful time to discover what makes Dakota Dunes different.

Rooted Whitecap Dakota Nation Heritage

The phrase Wapaha Ska Dakota Oyate Taŋyaŋ Yahiko means “Whitecap Dakota Nation, you are welcome here.”

Dakota Dunes Resort is owned by Whitecap Dakota Nation and is located on Whitecap Dakota Nation lands south of Saskatoon. Dakota culture, hospitality and connection to the land are integral to the resort experience.

Throughout the property, guests will discover architectural and design elements influenced by Dakota culture and the surrounding prairie landscape. Beyond the physical resort, Indigenous-led experiences create opportunities for guests to learn, listen and connect with Dakota stories and traditions.

This is what distinguishes a stay at Dakota Dunes: accommodation, dining, recreation, culture and wellness come together in one destination, grounded in a strong sense of place.

October Nights: Storytelling and the Prairie Sky

The cool evening air, striking golden sunsets, and clear prairie skies in October create the perfect backdrop for guests to engage in immersive cultural activities.

Gather around the warmth of an outdoor fire and experience Dakota Fireside: Bannock & Stories.

Guests can enjoy fresh bannock while listening to stories shared around the fire, creating an opportunity to connect with Dakota culture and the longstanding tradition of sharing knowledge through storytelling.

Step inside our 8-metre geodesic dome for an immersive experience that blends the wonders of the night sky with rich Indigenous storytelling. Take a journey through the stars guided by ancestral knowledge using modern projection technology.

  • The Powwow Experience:

Experience the vibrant energy and rhythm of a live Pow Wow presentation at Dakota Dunes Resort. Guided by Indigenous dancers and drummers, guests discover the rich cultural traditions, regalia, and storytelling behind the drum. Fully customizable with additional performers, it’s an unforgettable cultural highlight for conferences, celebrations, and group events.

Celebrate the Harvest at Moose Woods Home Fire Grill

Open year-round, Moose Woods Home Fire Grill welcomes families and couples to gather around the fire this October and enjoy the flavours of fall deeply rooted in culture, pride, and tradition.

Not only does the restaurant feature a distinguished autumn menu that highlights locally sourced ingredients and prime cuts prepared over an open flame, but we also carry a selection of handcrafted cocktails and a curated grouping of regional wines.

The restaurant’s windows offer breathtaking views of the natural landscape, and it is the perfect place to relax, enjoy rich conversation, and savour the season after a day of discovery.

Late-Season Golf and Restorative Stays

The Dakota Dunes Golf Links offers exceptional autumn play conditions throughout the entire fall season. With a layout that meanders naturally through rolling dunes and prairie grasses, the links create a picturesque Autumn backdrop for every shot.

Stay a Little Longer

Earlier evenings don’t force our guests to head out right away. With 155 welcoming guest rooms and suites, Dakota Dunes has a place to stay a little bit longer and savour the atmosphere.

Each room is a peaceful haven, crafted with warm earth tones, natural wood finishes, and upscale modern comforts. These thoughtfully detailed accommodations create the space for total relaxation for couples seeking a quiet escape, families enjoying an autumn getaway, or anyone looking to take advantage of a weekend stay-and-dine package.

Looking Ahead: The Dakota Dunes Thermal Spa

The next chapter of the Dakota Dunes experience is taking shape with the upcoming Dakota Dunes Thermal Spa.

Located at Dakota Dunes Resort on Whitecap Dakota Nation, the adult-only Thermal Spa will introduce a new wellness experience to the Saskatchewan prairie, bringing together thermal bathing, relaxation, nature and a philosophy grounded in place.

The Spa experience is shaped by four interconnected pillars: Water, Land, Sky, and Fire.

Water is central to the thermal journey. Guests will move through experiences of heat, cold and rest using thermal pools, cold plunges, saunas and steam.

Land reflects the Spa’s connection to the prairie and to the Whitecap Dakota Nation—the place from which the experience grows.

Sky recognizes the expansive prairie sky and the relationship between the natural world, changing seasons and the rhythms that surround us.

Stillness creates space to slow down, disconnect from the pace of everyday life and simply be present.

Together, these elements will create a wellness experience that belongs specifically to this place.

The Thermal Spa will feature nine thermal and cold pools, saunas and steam experiences, treatment rooms, and food and beverage options, all designed to allow guests to spend meaningful time within the thermal experience.

Guests interested in opening information and reservation availability are encouraged to join the Spa Insider list for the latest official updates.
